Method for measuring the thickness of dry film by paint thickness gauge

Paint Thickness Gauge Measuring Dry Film Thickness There are two different methods for measuring the dry film thickness of a paint, which are divided into destructive testing and non-destructive dispersing machine testing. Non-destructive testing tools mainly include magnetic tensile thickness gauges and electronic thickness gauges. The magnetic tensile thickness gauge is the easiest to use, because it looks like a banana, usually called a banana thickness gauge. The error of the magnetic paint thickness gauge is allowed to be within ±5%. Note the following when using a magnetic thickness gauge: First, because the exposed magnet will attract nearby scattered iron particles and steel shots or steel grit; secondly, if the magnetic paint thickness gauge is on a sticky paint film, the reading indicates The thickness may be lower than the actual film thickness; third, the vibration of the test area causes the magnet to detach from the surface before leaving the surface normally, resulting in a high reading. Under normal circumstances, it is best not to measure the dry film thickness at the edge, hole or internal angle less than 25mm (about 1m).
The electronic thickness gauge has single probe and double probe, and the error is within ±3%. If the measurement range is adjusted, the error can be controlled within ±1%. The electronic thickness gauge measures the film thickness by the magnetic flux between the probe and the substrate. It uses batteries and needs to be calibrated frequently. The thickness gauge reading can be accurate to 0.1mm. At present, the electronic thickness gauge is commonly used, and the high and low temperature test chamber is controlled by menu, and the paint film is analyzed in the computer through the data line. Different probes can be used on a variety of metal or non-metal substrates and are suitable for both flat and curved surfaces.

The standards used in dry film thickness measurement are IJK 2L3L, IJK74LG3, and SSPC-PA2 in the United States.

When making dry film thickness measurements, follow the measurement guidelines specified in the coating specification: 80-20, 90-10 principles or similar measurement principles. The 80-20 principle means: 80%; the measured value shall not be lower than the specified dry film thickness, and the remaining 20%; the measured value shall not be lower than the specified film thickness of 300 μm; For example, if the dry film thickness is 80%, then the measured value of L3; should reach the color wheel of 300 microns or more, and the other 20% of the measured value should not be lower than the specified film thickness of 300 micro bar coater meters; Micron.
