Wuhan expert leads the deciphering genetic code of rapeseed

Jing Chu Network News (Chutian Metropolis Daily) (Reporter Gao Jialong) People's looks, skin color and constitution are determined by innate genes, and crops such as cabbage, cabbage and rapeseed are no exception. It was learned yesterday that a research project led by a Chinese scientist successfully deciphered the genetic code of the above three crops. This means that in the future, the output of these crops will not be high, and the quality will be good or bad and will be controlled by people.

The entire genome sequencing project for cabbage, cabbage, and rape was launched in September last year. The project is divided into a cabbage subproject and the cabbage and rapeseed subproject. The former is chaired by the Institute of Vegetables and Flowers of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the latter is chaired by the Oil Crop Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Wuhan. In addition, Hunan Agricultural University, Southwest University, Huazhong Agricultural University, and Korean, British, Canadian, Australian, American and other multinational research institutions involved.

It is understood that scientists have now obtained detailed maps of the whole genome of Chinese cabbage, and the whole genome map of cabbage and rape. This achievement is the first time in the world that the entire three related crop species have been sequenced, and rape is by far the first allogeneic tetraploid plant sequenced. “We did not know the genetic sequence of rapeseed before, and it was blind to carry out new breed improvement.” Wang Hanzhong, director of the Institute of Petroleum Sciences at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said yesterday that he has mastered the genome-wide genetic code of rape, and the researchers will carry out artificial gene recombination. Accelerate the cloning and application of trait control genes to improve the quality and yield of rapeseed.

There are good seeds to grow good melons. The material used for this sequencing is also an excellent variety that is better than all. For example, the "Zhongshuang 11" planted by oil is the only high-yield, low-quality, high-quality rapeseed variety that combines high oil content, high lodging resistance, strong crack resistance and antibacterial and nuclear diseases.

Rape is one of the most important oil crops in China and even in the world. However, the supply gap for edible vegetable oil in China is huge. Every year, 60% of edible oil depends on imports. Rapeseed production is faced with low yield, poor disease resistance, and low quality, resulting in low production efficiency. And many other challenges. "This is one of the important reasons why we are conducting this research. We have this responsibility," Wang Hanzhong said.
