In recent years, the research of wave energy is the most important work in the field of marine energy utilization. The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), as a new generation of energy devices, can effectively convert low-frequency and low-amplitude mechanical energy into electrical energy, providing a new way to obtain energy from the wave energy. Based on this, Xia Kequan, a doctoral student at the School of Oceanography, Zhejiang University, combined this special structure with the nano-energy research that he has focused on in recent years, and uses materials that are common in life to generate electricity.

The research team prepared a multi-frequency high-performance friction nano-generator (WB-TENG) based on water balloons for wave energy collection. WB-TENG consists of a square box and a water balloon. The inner wall of the square box is covered with a layer of conductive copper foil, and a nylon film is pasted on the surface. Put the wire into the balloon, then inject the aqueous solution of sodium chloride, and finally seal it by knotting. Put the produced water balloon in a square box, and the WB-TENG power generation device is completed.

According to the principle of triboelectricity, when the balloon and the nylon film collide and rub against each other, the surfaces of the two films will carry equal amounts of different charges. When the two films are in contact-separation movement, according to the principle of electrostatic induction, the sodium chloride solution in the balloon and the conductive copper foil attached to the nylon film will induce equal amounts of different charges. At this time, when the two electrodes are connected Alternating currents will be generated in the circuit.

At present, there are a variety of friction nano-generator structures for collecting water wave energy, but its single working mode and low energy conversion efficiency limit the practical application of TENG. WB-TENG can realize three working modes-full contact-separation mode, partial contact-separation mode, reciprocating contact-separation mode, which can collect mechanical energy in any direction, which greatly promotes the application of TENG in ocean energy collection.

In addition, due to the good elasticity of the water balloon, when the WB-TENG is subjected to low-frequency external forces, the water balloon will continuously collide with the inner wall inside the box, thereby generating multi-frequency output current. According to experimental tests, under the same conditions, the total transfer charge of WB-TENG in a working cycle is 28 times that of traditional TENG based on double-plate structure, which can greatly improve the energy conversion efficiency.

According to the stretchability of the water balloon, during the continuous collision and friction between the balloon and the nylon film, the surface of the balloon continuously accumulates charge until saturation, which will bring super high output performance. According to experimental tests, at an operating frequency of 1.5 Hz, the instantaneous peak value of the WB-TENG short-circuit current can reach 147 microamperes, and the instantaneous peak value of the open circuit voltage can reach 1221 volts. At the same time, WB-TENG reaches its maximum output power when the external load is 20 megohms, and its instantaneous peak value is 13.52 milliwatts. (Reporter Cui Xueqin)
