With the continuous advancement of China's gear industry and the growth of its downstream sectors, such as the automotive industry, the output value of the gear industry is expected to reach 100 billion yuan between 2006 and 2010, placing it among the world's top "three guarantees two" in terms of production capacity. From 2011 to 2015, efforts were made to further improve its global standing and aim for a leading position.
After nearly a decade of development, China's gear products have achieved remarkable progress. Many of them have reached or are close to international advanced levels. However, a significant portion of gears and gearboxes still lag behind globally in terms of noise, vibration, and fatigue life. These issues are closely related to the quality of gear materials and the level of heat treatment equipment and processes. As a result, these challenges have become major bottlenecks that hinder China's gear industry from fully catching up with international standards.
In 2006, the annual output value of the gear industry reached 59 billion yuan, with vehicle gears accounting for as much as two-thirds of the total. The automobile industry has been a key driver supporting the development of gear molds and related technologies.
During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period (2006–2010), the total output value of the gear industry increased from 25 billion yuan to 50 billion yuan, achieving an average annual growth rate of nearly 20%. In just five years, the industry doubled in size, ranking fourth globally. Over 50 companies achieved sales volumes exceeding 100 million yuan, and the industry's concentration significantly improved. During this period, the focus was on cultivating leading enterprises in the gear sector, aiming to eventually achieve the top position in the world, especially in the reducer segment.
