Since the harmonic voltage and harmonic current in the utility grid cause great harm to the electrical equipment and the power grid itself, many countries in the world have issued national standards for limiting the harmonics of the power grid, and the authority has established regulations for limiting harmonics. The harmonic standards set by countries all over the world are mostly close. In 1993, China's Technical Supervision Bureau issued the National Standard (gb/t14549-93) "Power Quality Harmony of Utility Grid", which was implemented from March 1, 1994.

The mechanism for generating harmonics on the input side of the inverter is that any rectifier circuit on the power supply side generates harmonics due to its nonlinearity. The mechanism for generating harmonics on the output side of the inverter is: In the inverter circuit, for a voltage type circuit, the output voltage is a rectangular wave. For current-mode circuits, the output current is a rectangular wave. Rectangular waves contain more harmonics, which have an adverse effect on the load. Therefore, even if the voltage of the power supply in the power system is a sine wave, there will always be harmonic current or voltage in the power grid due to the existence of nonlinear components. Therefore, the existence of grid harmonics mainly lies in the existence of various nonlinear components in the power system.
