What is PBT?

Introduction to PBT materials:
Pbt is an abbreviation for polybutylene terephthalate, and Chinese is called polybutylene terephthalate. PBT is a semi-crystalline material and it is also one of the engineering thermoplastic materials. Its internal molecular structure is very stable, with very good mechanical strength, electrical insulation properties and thermal stability. We generally use PBT chemicals to make household appliances (electric fans, utensils), electrical components, automotive parts and other items.
Development history of PBT materials:
PBT was first developed by German scientist P. Schlack in 1942. After that, it was industrially developed by Celanese (now Ticona) and listed under the trade name Celanex. In 1970, 30% glass fiber reinforced plastic was put on the market. For X-917, later changed to CELANEX. In 1971, Eastman introduced a glass fiber reinforced and non-reinforced product under the trade name Tenite (PTMT); in the same year, GE also developed similar products, with three varieties that are not enhanced, enhanced and self-extinguishing. Subsequently, world-famous manufacturers such as Germany BASF, Bayer, US GE, Ticona, Mitsubishi Chemical, Taiwan Xinguanghe Fiber, Changchun Synthetic Resin, South Asia Plastics and other companies have successively put into production, with more than 30 global manufacturers.
Characteristics of PBT materials:
PBT is a milky white translucent to opaque, crystalline thermoplastic polyester. It has high heat resistance, toughness, fatigue resistance, self-lubrication, low friction coefficient, low weather resistance, low water absorption, only 0.1%, and maintains various physical properties (including electrical properties) and electrical insulation in a humid environment. However, the volume resistance and dielectric loss are large. Heat-resistant water, alkalis, acids, but susceptible to attack by halogenated hydrocarbons, poor hydrolysis resistance, rapid crystallization at low temperatures, good moldability. The disadvantage is that the notched impact strength is low and the molding shrinkage rate is large. Therefore, most of them are modified by glass fiber reinforced or inorganic filler, and the tensile strength and bending strength can be more than doubled, and the heat distortion temperature is also greatly improved. It can work for a long time at 140 °C. After the glass fiber reinforced, the longitudinal and transverse shrinkage of the product are inconsistent, which makes it easy to warp the product.
Process characteristics of PBT:
PBT has a distinct melting point and a melting point of 225-235 ° C. It is a crystalline material with a crystallinity of 40%.
The viscosity of the PBT melt is not as much affected by the temperature as the shear stress. Therefore, in injection molding, the injection pressure has an obvious effect on the melt flow of the PBT.
PBT has good fluidity in the molten state and low viscosity, which is second only to nylon. It is prone to "casting" in molding.
PBT shaped articles are anisotropic. PBT is easily degraded when exposed to water at high temperatures.
