Abstract Diamond micropowders with different particle sizes were selected, and the mobile phone panel glass was processed by two kinds of polishing methods: free abrasive and fixed abrasive. The material removal rate and the surface roughness of the polished workpiece were compared. The results show that under the same polishing process parameters, the abrasive grain size has a significant effect on the material removal rate and the polished surface quality in the free abrasive polishing, but not in the fixed abrasive polishing; the diamond-bonded abrasive polishing pad is used. Polishing can obtain a good surface quality with a surface roughness of about 1.5 nm, and a self-trimming function is better achieved during the polishing process.
