Earthmoving machinery operating procedures

(-)-General Safety Requirements

1. Always place the clutch and shift lever in neutral before starting the engine. Before driving, ensure that no one is in front of the machine, on the track, or near the tires. When parking, make sure the track is stopped and locked to prevent accidental movement.

2. Personnel should not board or leave the machine while it's in motion. It's also prohibited to straddle the machine or any equipment being towed. Avoid turning or lateral movement when working on steep slopes. Do not coast down a slope without engine control. Never shift gears when going up or down a slope with a tracked vehicle.

3. Never perform any work under the machine while the engine is running. Do not conduct repairs or adjustments while the machine is in motion.

4. When crossing over exposed pipes, cables, or wire ropes, use wooden planks or boards to protect the surface and prevent damage or tripping hazards.

5. If underground pipelines, cables, or structures are encountered during work, stop immediately and report to the relevant authorities for proper handling. Never drag, push, or shovel anything buried underground.

6. If the engine stops while working on a slope, secure the machine and block the track. When leaving the machine during operation, lower the bucket or fork and turn off the engine to prevent accidents.

7. Wire ropes must not be used as regular ropes. If the winch rope becomes twisted, it should be rewound properly. Replace the rope if wear or corrosion exceeds acceptable limits.

(2) Tractor

1. When pulling unmanned equipment, no one should sit on the towed object. Never drive if there is someone between the tractor and the towed item. When using a wire rope to pull heavy objects, ensure all nearby personnel are at a safe distance before proceeding.

2. The mechanical equipment being towed must have a secure and stable connection to prevent detachment or failure during operation.

3. For special components, a designated person should give clear commands to ensure safe operation.

(3) Bulldozer

1. When pushing soil near the edge of a slope, avoid pushing beyond the edge. After shifting gears, raise the blade to prevent damage.

2. Clear the work area of large rocks, obstacles, or pits before starting. When removing buildings, trees, or poles, take necessary safety precautions and choose a suitable location.

3. When descending a steep slope, lower the blade to the ground and reverse to maintain control.

4. Always lower the blade during maintenance. If you need to inspect underneath, use blocks to secure the blade. Never work or inspect under a suspended blade.

(4) Scraper

1. Do not travel unless the bucket is properly secured in transport mode. A safety wire rope must be installed between the Dongfanghong tractor and the bucket to prevent accidents.

2. On slopes, never reverse downward to unload soil. Maintain a safe distance from the edge to prevent tipping.

3. No one should be on the bucket or rack while the scraper is operating. Do not work behind the bucket after the pusher has moved.

4. When multiple machines are working together, keep a minimum distance of 20 meters between them to avoid collisions.

5. During maintenance or inspection, follow the same guidelines as for the bulldozer blade (see "Bulldozer", Article 4).

(5) Excavator

1. Avoid digging too deep or applying excessive force with the bucket. Do not change the boom angle when the bucket is fully loaded.

2. Never rotate the bucket while it is still in contact with the ground or scrape the soil using the side of the bucket. Avoid side impacts against the working surface.

3. When excavating cliffs, watch for falling rocks or debris. Keep a safe distance from trenches to prevent tipping or collapse.

4. When unloading into a truck, lower the bucket and place it inside before opening the bottom to release the material. Never cross over the bucket from the cab. Do not unload if people or obstacles are present below.

5. When moving an excavator, stop the rotating platform, align the boom parallel to the tracks, and keep the head less than 1 meter above the ground. When climbing uphill, position the crawler drive wheel on the rear left. When going downhill, place the drive wheel in front and the boom behind. Generally, the slope should not exceed 20 degrees in either direction.

6. When the excavator stops, always lower the bucket to the ground. Never leave it hanging in the air.

7. Monitor the hydraulic system carefully during operation to ensure everything functions correctly.

(6) Universal Loader

1. Do not exceed the maximum load capacity. Avoid carrying small items with unstable centers of gravity, even if they are not overweight.

2. Never lift cargo while the bucket is tilted forward. Do not move the machine until the bucket is fully tilted back. Always apply the brakes before lifting. Keep the bucket or forks 300–400 mm above the ground while driving, and ensure no one is on them.

3. Approach the cargo slowly within 8–4 meters and use low speed. Avoid forcing the bucket when pushing.

4. Ensure the center of gravity of the load is centered between the two fork arms. Never lift with just one fork arm.

5. If the machine becomes unstable and the wheels lift off the ground, lower the load immediately to prevent tipping.
