Recently, four students from the Luyuan Environmental Protection Association at Nanjing Agricultural University were featured on Hunan TV's "Every Day" program. For over 14 years, the association has been actively involved in environmental protection efforts, including water quality monitoring of the Qinhuai River, noise pollution assessments, rural environment improvement, soil restoration, and organizing educational activities. They have walked a total of 930 kilometers, conducted 215 environmental education events both inside and outside the university, and collected 6,400 questionnaires.
Not long ago, the Communist Youth League Central Committee announced the "Mother River Award," an authoritative environmental award for young people in China, given every two years. The Luyuan Environmental Protection Association was honored as one of the five winning organizations nationwide. Following this recognition, they were invited to be the main subjects of the TV show "Everyday Up."
The four students who appeared on the show are passionate environmental advocates. Liu Yansha, a senior majoring in environmental science, served as the project director of the Luyuan Environmental Protection Association. When she first came to Nanjing in 2010, she struggled with unfamiliar surroundings. She often took the bus and noticed that some routes lacked clear directions. To address this, she checked the mayor’s mailbox online and wrote a letter to a deputy mayor responsible for transportation. Her suggestion was soon adopted and implemented.
Zhang Yuxuan, a senior from Tianjin, led his team in developing a high-performance haze mask. Unlike regular masks that offer three layers of protection, Zhang’s design features five layers, achieving a filtration efficiency of over 95%. The key innovation lies in the porous carbon material that effectively captures fine particles and harmful gases. The product is now available on the market, generating monthly sales of 20,000 yuan. Zhang also founded an environmental technology company and became its chairman.
