Bearing packaging plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality, precision, and usability of bearings during transportation and storage. Proper inner packaging ensures protection against moisture, dust, impact, and rust, which are common challenges that can compromise the performance of bearings.
After the production and inspection process, qualified bearings undergo cleaning and anti-rust treatment before being placed into their inner packaging. This step is essential to preserve the integrity of the bearing and ensure it remains in optimal condition until it reaches the end user.
There are three main types of inner packaging based on the expected anti-rust period:
1. **Short Anti-Rust Period Packaging (3–6 months)** – Suitable for large-volume deliveries to the same customer who will use the bearings shortly after receiving them. This type typically uses simple packaging materials such as plastic tubes or bags.
2. **Normal Anti-Rust Period Packaging (1 year)** – Ideal for standard bearings used in regular applications. It provides a balanced level of protection while keeping costs manageable.
3. **Long Anti-Rust Period Packaging (2 years)** – Designed for high-precision or special bearings that may not be used immediately. These packages use more durable materials like multi-layered plastic films and waterproof tapes.
Common materials used for inner packaging include polyethylene plastic tubes, kraft paper, composite paper, cartons, polyethylene film, nylon or plastic fastening tapes, waterproof plastic tapes, and linen bags. All these materials must meet corrosion resistance standards to protect the bearings effectively.
### Guidelines for Inner Packaging Methods
- **Miniature Bearings**: Pack 10–15 sets per plastic cylinder, and place 5–10 cylinders into a single carton or bag.
- **Medium and Small Bearings**: Wrap multiple sets in polyethylene film, then enclose them in a plastic tube or box. Each individual bearing should be placed in a sealed polyethylene bag.
- **Large Bearings**: Use polyethylene film or composite paper for wrapping, then place them in a carton with a plastic bag. For added protection, wrap each set in a three-layer package: inner layer with polyethylene tape, middle layer with fastening tape, and an outer layer with waterproof plastic tape.
- **Extra Large Bearings**: Use a three-layer package similar to large bearings, and add an additional layer of linen tape for extra durability.
For separable tapered roller bearings with an outer diameter of 150mm or more, it’s important to separate the inner and outer components before packaging, or pad the inner parts with polyethylene film. Similarly, for exchangeable cylindrical roller bearings of the same size, the packaging should allow for easy disassembly if needed.
### Outer Packaging Standards
The outer packaging should also follow specific guidelines to ensure safe transport:
1. **Double Corrugated Carton**: Each box should weigh no more than 25kg. The box should be wrapped with plastic and secured with straps.
2. **Wooden Boxes (Nail Boxes)**: Each wooden box should not exceed 30kg and should be secured with blue steel strips.
3. **Plastic Corrugated Boxes**: These should also weigh no more than 25kg and be strapped with plastic strapping.
When placing inner-packaged bearings into the outer box, it's important to first line the box with a plastic bag or film. If there is any empty space, fill it with dry materials like corrugated paper or paper scraps to prevent movement and damage.
