Nano-diamond fillers can greatly improve the thermal conductivity of materials

Carbodeon has introduced a groundbreaking thermal conductivity material using nano-diamond fillers, which boosts the thermal performance of polymers by 25%. This innovation significantly enhances the functionality of polymer-based materials, particularly in the electronics and LED sectors. Initially, the company used polyamide 66 as a base material, incorporating 44% boron nitride as a thermal filler. Later, they developed an improved version with 44.9% boron nitride and just 0.1% nano-diamond powder, achieving a remarkable 25% increase in thermal conductivity. What sets this new material apart is not only its enhanced thermal properties but also its ability to maintain the mechanical integrity and electrical insulation characteristics of the polymer. This makes it an ideal solution for manufacturers looking to improve heat management without compromising performance or safety. Vesa Myllymaki, Carbodeon’s Chief Technology Officer, explained that the key to the improvement lies in the high thermal conductivity of diamond, which can reach up to 2000 W/mK. The company focuses on modifying the surface chemistry of diamond particles to ensure better compatibility with the polymer matrix. By employing a hybrid manufacturing process, they create strong interfacial bonding between nanodiamonds and the polymer, resulting in a more efficient and stable composite material. One of the main challenges with nano-diamonds is their tendency to agglomerate due to their highly reactive surfaces, especially when working with particles in the 4-6 nm range. To overcome this, Carbodeon fine-tunes the surface chemistry of the nanodiamonds, allowing them to disperse evenly within the polymer. This enables the creation of advanced composites that combine the unique properties of diamonds with cost-effective and low-concentration materials, unlocking new functional possibilities. Myllymaki added, “Our technology allows us to enhance the chemical properties of raw materials by adding just a small amount of nano-diamonds. We are currently working with several application partners and have already demonstrated the benefits to manufacturers. We believe we’ve only scratched the surface of what nanodiamonds can do, and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead through collaboration with our customers.”

Luxury Pendant Light

Deluxe chandeliers can give your home a more noble feeling.

Most of our luxury chandeliers are made of aluminum as the main body and acrylic as the accessories. The whole lamp is basically made of these two materials. The crystal clear acrylic sets off the beauty of the lamp, and the led reflected from the light source makes the whole lamp body more beautiful.
