In Fengxin County, Jiangxi, a simple plastic bottle can be transformed into something valuable. While many people might see it as trash destined for the garbage bin, local companies have found innovative ways to turn waste into wealth. The recycling process has become an essential part of the textile industry in the Fengxin Industrial Park, creating a circular economy that benefits both the environment and the local economy.
According to Shuai Qiming, Deputy Manager of Jiangxi Siyuanxiang Regeneration Technology Co., Ltd., "Garbage is actually a mine filled with 'urban minerals.' Up to 80% of household waste can be recycled and reused. Even non-degradable materials can be used in various processes such as smart cleaning or wire drawing, eventually becoming raw materials for textiles."
Fengxin Industrial Park has positioned itself as a key player in China’s emerging textile industry. It is recognized as the “China Textile Industry Transfer Pilot Park†and is actively driving economic transformation by adopting new technologies and upgrading traditional industries. The park is home to 16 large textile enterprises, making it the largest and fastest-growing textile base in Jiangxi.
Siyuanxiang, the only waste polyester recycling company in the province, plays a crucial role in this transformation. With four collection points in Nanchang, the company recycles 88,000 tons of waste polyester annually, producing 6 million tons of recycled polyester fiber. This makes it the fifth-largest in China, the first in East China, and the only renewable polyester chemical fiber production base in Jiangxi.
Inside the factory, thousands of discarded drink bottles are processed using advanced automation and intelligent equipment. After being cleaned, melted, and spun into pellets, they are transformed into high-quality polyester fibers. What was once considered waste is now a clean, white material used in premium textile products.
Beyond just recycling, these materials support the entire textile supply chain within the industrial park. From raw material production to spinning, weaving, and dyeing, a complete industrial ecosystem has been formed. This integration attracts more textile companies to set up operations in Fengxin, taking advantage of the efficient and cost-effective supply chain.
Xiao Chongsheng, an engineer at Jiangxi Baofeng Knitting Co., Ltd., noted that 80%-90% of their raw materials come from local suppliers. This proximity reduces costs by about 5%, while also cutting down on logistics and sales expenses. The well-developed industrial chain is a major draw for businesses looking to streamline operations.
With advanced technology, high-end product positioning, and a focus on expanding scale and extending the industrial chain, Fengxin is building a modern textile industry. By 2015, the park aims to host 27 textile companies, with a raw material capacity of 300,000 tons, 2.5 million spindles, 40,000 tons of weaving capacity, and 50,000 tons of printing and dyeing capacity. The goal is to attract 1-2 large home textile and clothing companies, further strengthening the textile system and working toward the vision of a "Chinese Cotton Textile City."
